Wolverine Star Hugh Jackman Will Play a Battle-Worn Robin Hood Grappling With His Life of Crime in New Movie

Hugh Jackman is headed to the Sherwood Forest, as the prolific actor has been cast to play Robin Hood in a dark reimagining of the outlaw’s life of crime.

As reported by Variety, The Death of Robin Hood will focus on the titular character as he grapples with “his past after a life of crime and murder.” As the logline and title imply, this film will be a much darker take than previous adaptations of English folklore, such as the adaptation Disney released in 1973.

In addition to Jackman, actress Jodie Comer is attached as a co-star for the film, though specifics of her role have yet to be revealed. Comer, who is best known for her role in the TV series Killing Eve, was recently revealed to have joined the cast in the upcoming zombie flick 28 Years Later alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes.

Michael Sarnoski, known for directing the 2021 drama Pig and the upcoming horror film A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to write and direct The Death of Robin Hood. According to Variety, the film production will start next February.

In contrast, Jackman’s most recent role is in the upcoming MCU film Deadpool & Wolverine, with the actor set to reprise his role as Wolverine and co-star the movie alongside actor Ryan Reynolds. The film is set to release in theatres on July 26.

“It has been an incredible opportunity to reinvent and freshly innovate the story we all know of Robin Hood,” Sarnoski said in a statement provided to Variety. “Securing the perfect cast to transform the script to screen was essential. I could not be more thrilled and trusting in Hugh and Jodie to bring this story to life in a powerful and meaningful way.”
