The Maze Runner Is Getting Reboot With Wes Ball as a Producer – Report

Sixth years after the conclusion of the Maze Runner original film trilogy, 20th Century Studios is working on a reboot

According to THR, 20th Century Studios is in talks to have Alien: Covenant and Transcendence writer Jack Palgen write the reboot film’s script. The Hollywood Reporter also notes that Wes Ball, the trilogy’s director, will produce The Maze Runner reboot.

While details on the film’s story are scant, sources close to the project told THR the reboot will act more as a cinematic continuation of the original trilogy’s story rather than a retelling or direct sequel to it.

The Maze Runner, based on author James Dashner’s sci-fi dystopian novels, follows a group of kids with amnesia tasked with escaping a mysterious maze, battling mechanical monsters, and overthrowing the secret government organization that put them there.

The original Maze Runner film, starring actor Dylan O’Brien, was released in theaters in 2014. The trilogy’s final film, Maze Runner: The Death Cure, was released in theaters in 2018.

In our review, we gave the film a 6.9 out of 10, saying the film spent way too much time trying to wrap up the trilogy’s loose ends and “not enough time kicking butt.”
