The config you choose will ultimate decide on the types of games you play. If you like to play the latest and greatest AAA titles with all your graphics settings turned up, then the RTX 4080 might suit you. The mobile RTX 4080 is a very powerful GPU; it’s the second most powerful mobile graphics solution right behind the RTX 4090. Compared to desktop variants, it’s nearly as powerful as an RTX 3080 / RTX 4070 desktop GPU. It’s still more powerful than the previous generation’s RTX 3070.
One important note is that despite the thinner footprint, the x16 model features a GPUs that boasts the same TGP rating as its m16 counterpart. Theoretically, that means you shouldn’t see any performance difference in gaming performance between an equivalently equipped x16 and m16. That’s super impressive considering the x16’s 0.73″ thickness. Although the GPU is more or less identical, there is a slight compromise in CPU performance. The x16 utilizes the less power-hungry Intel Core i7-13700H CPU compared to the m16’s i7-13700HX. For most people, the performance difference won’t be noticeable, especially in games (the GPU is more important). I think it’s worth the tradeoff to get a sleeker and more portable laptop.
