Note that the XPS 17 isn’t designed to be a gaming laptop, but for everything else it is a multi-tasking beast.

The XPS 17 is Dell’s slimmest and lightest 17″ laptop, weighing in at under 5.4 pounds. That’s possible thanks to its nearly bezel-less design and all aluminum and carbon fiber construction. There’s a ton of power under the hood, though. The specs include a 4K UHD+ (3840×2400) display, a 13th gen Intel Core i9-13900H processor, GeForce RTX 4080 12GB mobile GPU, 32GB of DDR5-4800Mhz RAM, and a 1TB NVME SSD. The i9-13900H is a low voltage version of the i9-13900HX you might find in bigger laptops. It’s still more than enough processing power than most people will need. Likewise the RTX 4080 has a lower TDP rating. It’s still quite a powerful GPU for gaming, rendering, AI, and whatnot, however it won’t compare to an equivalent Alienware laptop. In return, you get better battery life and a much smaller 130W USB Type-C power brick that doesn’t weigh as much as the laptop itself.
The 17″ display boasts a resolution that has more vertical real estate than 4K (3840×2400 instead of 3840×2160) as well as touchscreen support, which is great for general productivity. In terms of sharpness, it measures out to 266ppi. It’s also equipped with four Thunderbolt 4 ports. These double up as USB Type-C with DisplayPort and Power Delivery, which means you can connect it to a USB monitor and charge it simultaneously. An ample 32GB of DDR5-3200Mhz is preinstalled, which is great because this laptop uses pre-soldered RAM and thus isn’t user upgradeable.
You won’t find very many slim non-gaming laptops with this kind of power at this price point. We picked the Dell XPS as the best ultraportable laptop for 2024. If you’re looking specifically for gaming, this will do, but there are other Alienware deals that might be better options for you.
