Peacock has announced that it will officially be the home of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman’s The Office revival.
The streamer revealed details about the new show, which will take place within the same universe as Steve Carrell’s popular mockumentary series, today. Its official title hasn’t been decided yet.
However, Daniels and Koman have revealed what the show will be about. Expect the story to follow the same in-universe documentary crew that offered audiences a peek into the world of Dunder Mifflin. Instead of covering a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the team will observe a “dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
Universal Television is producing the show.
“It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” NBCUniversal Entertainment President Lisa Katz said. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”
The untitled Office show is still coming together behind the scenes, but it has already named two leads in what Peacock says will become an “ensemble cast.” The two already-attached stars are Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Ex Machina’s Domhnall Gleeson and The White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore. Details on how they will fit into this new newsroom setting have yet to be revealed.
The series is executive produced by Daniels, Koman, Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas (formerly Reveille). Production is scheduled to begin in July.
Daniels and Koman consider the new Office show to be more of a spinoff than a reboot. No release date has been revealed yet, but with production set to begin soon, we hopefully won’t have to wait long for updates.
