At this point, it’s safe to say that Jabra makes some of the most reliable earbuds you can buy, especially for the price. The Jabra Elite 5, like the company’s prior midrange models, are good example of a pair that checks all the right boxes, offering up ANC, multipoint, and a host of other welcome features at a competitive price point. And now, thanks to a $60 discount from Amazon and Jabra, you can grab them for a mere $89.99, which nearly matches their second-best price to date.

We’ve long considered the Jabra Elite 3 one of the best pairs of sub-$100 earbuds you could buy, though, at the current price, I’d argue the Elite 5 are the better value. The comfy, teardrop-shaped buds don’t excel at any one thing but rather offer a laundry list of features for a budget-friendly price. This includes IP55 dust and water resistance, seven hours of continuous playback with ANC turned on, and support for aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs. Given their price, their noise cancellation isn’t going to rival what you might get from a pair of Bose or Sony earbuds, but it’s effective, allowing you to tune out noisy coffee shops and light traffic with ease.

Rounding out the feature set is their support for an array of software tricks, including support for Android Fast Pair, Windows Swift Pair, Alexa, and Google Assistant. The platform-agnostic Elite 5 offer a customizable EQ as well, letting you fine-tune the bass, treble, and other sound facets to fit your podcasts or T-Swift’s latest album.

Jabra’s reliable Elite 5 capably balance sound quality, comfort, and battery life. The wireless earbuds feature good sound quality as well, along with active noise cancellation and multipoint connectivity.

In the Friday issue of the Verge Deals newsletter, we flagged a terrific discount on the Ecobee Smart Thermostat Premium, which is still on sale at Amazon and The Home Depot for $219.99 ($30 off). If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative and can forgo a few bells and whistles, however, Google’s entry-level Nest Thermostat is matching its all-time low of $89.99 ($40 off) at Amazon, Best Buy, and the Google Store.

As the price might indicate, Google’s smart thermostat isn’t meant to compete with some of the more premium options available — including the aforementioned Ecobee model and Google’s own Nest Learning Thermostat. The simple device supports most HVAC systems, however, along with platforms like Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings, thanks to an over-the-air software update that added Matter support about a year ago.

As far as features go, the Nest Thermostat makes it easy to adjust the temperature and set your heating / cooling schedule, whether that’s via voice assistants like Alexa or the Google Home app. It also integrates with other connected devices in your home and offers smart presence-sensing features that can help you use less energy and (hopefully) save some money while you’re away. Hell, if you’re lucky, it may even be eligible for a rebate through your local energy supplier.

Google’s Matter-compatible Nest Thermostat is a simple thermostat with a minimalist, mirrored-finish screen. It doesn’t automatically adjust to your habits, but it’s easy to install, controllable with your phone, and compatible with most HVAC systems.

  • The Nintendo Switch OLED is on sale at Amazon for $324 ($25 off) at checkout, which is one of the better prices we’ve seen on the step-up model with a seven-inch OLED display and improved speaker system. Yes, it’s getting a little long in the tooth — a next-gen Switch will reportedly arrive next year — but the hybrid console is still slated to receive a number of new titles in the coming months, including new indies and a remake of another beloved RPG. Read our review.
  • Apple has been on a real sci-fi tear lately, having recently inked deals for new seasons of both Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and For All Mankind. Luckily, if you have yet to dig into either show, new and returning subscribers can snag two months of Apple TV Plusfor free as part of the streaming service’s ongoing Friday Night Baseball promo, which runs through September 26th.
  • If you’re someone who tries to avoid earbuds while biking, Amazon is offering the Tribit Stormbox Micro 2 for $42.99 ($37 off) with an on-page coupon. I’ve found the miniature Bluetooth speaker to be an excellent companion for cycling in the Pacific Northwest, namely because it features good sound for its size, an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, and — most importantly — a built-in strap that lets me easily attach it to the handlebars of my bike.
  • Belkin’s 10,000mAh BoostCharge Pro power bank has returned to its all-time low of $79.99 ($20 off) at Amazon. I could easily wax poetic about the BoostCharge Pro — hell, my colleague Victoria Song already has — but just know that it’s one of the few travel-friendly battery packs that lets you fast-charge the latest Apple Watch models alongside your smartphone, a set of earbuds, and any other USB-C device you want to power with up to 20 watts.
