I Tried Lori Harvey’s Favorite ’90s-Inspired Lip Combo

There aren't very many things that Lori Harvey can do wrong in my eyes and what consistently gets oh-so right is her glam. Whether she's in fashion editorials, walking down a runway, or just running errands, she always has a simple girl-next-door approach to her makeup that feels approachable and emphasizes her natural beauty rather than covers it up. While Harvey has perfected the art of the neutral lip combination, she likes to play with her lipstick shades frequently. The model has been spotted in bright red hues, as well as moody burgundy tones, and in a recent Get Ready With Me video for Allure, Harvey revealed her latest go-to lip combination: a glossy, warm brown that screams '90s supermodel. The products all came from her makeup artist Courtney Kareem's brand, Made Beauty, and thankfully, I already owned them. So, of course, I had to see if I could achieve the Lori Harvey lip of my dreams. Read ahead to see the results of my experiment. Lori Harvey's Favorite Lip Products The products that Harvey used were the Made Beauty Velvet Matte Liquid Lipstick ($22) in the shade Triple Shot, the Ultimate Lip Liner ($18) in Primal, and the Ultra Lip Shine ($20) in Liquid Gold. Like the star, I first started by lining my lips with the lip liner, which is a neutral brown color and one of my favorite products from the entire line. I outlined the entire perimeter of my mouth and then added a line on each side of the top and bottom lips, essentially dividing it into thirds. This is an old lip contouring hack that is said to make the lips appear a bit larger, particularly on camera. After my lips were mapped out, I followed with the lipstick, which is a rich, warm-brown shade. Harvey said she didn't want to do "too much," so she dabbed the color on for a lighter appearance. However, when I wear a brown lip, I go for bold, so I did the exact opposite and applied the color straight from the lipstick bullet to get a gorgeous, slightly grungy vibe going. To finish the combination (and slightly tone down the very dark lip that I had going on), I added a few swipes of the same shimmery gold lip gloss that Harvey used, and the look was complete. Though I would typically consider myself a gloss girl, when it comes to brown lipstick, in particular, I usually opt for a matte finish as I feel like it makes more of a statement. However, Harvey's combination made the color feel much more approachable and easy to wear - this is a look that I would realistically revisit in the future. Leave it to her to not only convince me to try something new but to inadvertently make it one of my new favorite looks. Ariel Baker is the assistant editor for POPSUGAR Beauty. “Moonlight” Nails Are Equal Parts Ethereal and Trendy

The line between the nail and fine-art worlds continues to get thinner by the day. From manicures inspired by James Turrell to hand-painted nail-art trends that could impress even the most prolific Renaissance artist, it's been proven time and again that your hands can act as a canvas for some incredibly eye-catching works of art. If you're looking for a new design to turn heads, the latest trend is the "moonlight" manicure. The look in question quite literally looks like the reflection of moonlight off of a body of water, merging together two existing popular trends. "Moonlight nails are a fusion of magnetic cat eye and jelly nails," Mazz Hanna, CEO of Nailing Hollywood, tells POPSUGAR. The moonlight reference comes from the shimmering properties of the magnetic polish, which create the ethereal effect that's become exceedingly popular over the last few weeks. Ahead, Hanna explains how you can get moonlight nails and provides us with some fun nail-art inspiration. What Are Moonlight Nails? Moonlight nails have the finish of a traditional cat-eye nail but are much more transparent. "They're trending because it's such an eye-catching manicure," Hanna says. "There's something about them that keeps you staring at your nails all day. That shimmer, sparkle, and color shift – it's all just so beautiful." To get a moonlight manicure at home, pair a magnetic polish with a jelly formula of your choice. "After you have prepped your nails and applied your base coat, apply one thin coat of the magnetic polish and do not cure it," Hanna says. (Keep in mind that you want the velvet polish to be a bit more sheer, so the fewer coats that you can use to achieve the look, the better.) "While the gel is still wet, sweep a magnet in a circular motion around the edge of your nail and you will see the magnetic particles in the polish move," she adds. After you create a pattern that you like, you can cure the nail. Then, to get the moonlight effect, add one or two thin coats of your jelly polish on top. Hanna recommends products like Gelcare's Oyster Velvet ($22) as a base underneath a warm-toned jelly polish. To ensure the finish is transparent, you'll want to apply a very thin layer. Though moonlight manicures make for a great design alone, they also act as the perfect base for nail art and 3D charms. Need some inspiration? We went ahead and rounded up some of the best moonlight nails that we could find. Read ahead to find a few to add to your mood board.

This Brow Gel Will Make You Toss Your Other Products

Brows are the step in my makeup routine that I want to spend the least amount of time on. However, I recognize that they are one of the most crucial parts of my process. Coming from someone who used to spend upwards of 10 minutes alone perfecting them, I know how paramount it is that I get the shape just right to frame my face perfectly. However, as a professional who now leads a hectic life, I don't have time to carve out my brows to perfection with concealer every day. As such, brow gel has become a staple in my makeup bag. With this product, not only can I have the look of defined eyebrows in just a minute or two, but the hair also stays in place without the need for touch-ups. Over the last few years, I've become somewhat of a brow-gel connoisseur, trying what feels like every option under the sun. My current favorite doubles as an edge control, but when Anastasia Beverly Hills, the brand that is akin to eyebrow royalty, came out with a new formula, I had to put it to the test. The Brow Freeze Gel ($26) comes in a single clear shade. The brand claims that this would be the perfect final step to a full eyebrow routine, but it can also be used alone for more minimal days on the go. Read ahead for my thoughts on it. About the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel The formula of this product is a cross between a wax and a gel. The applicator is housed in a tube and features a triple-action comb with long and short bristles, as well as a flat side to laminate the brows into place. Standout ingredients include glycerin and polyacrylate-2 crosspolymer, which provides hydration and a nonsticky hold. What I Like About the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel The compact packaging immediately won me over with this product. Brow gel is not something that I often take with me on the go, but for those days when I need to do my makeup in a car or right before I go into an event, I love the fact that it barely takes up any room in my makeup bag. Formula-wise, the brand has achieved an impressive feat. This gel has the hold of the original Brow Freeze Wax and my current favorite brow gel, which is the Got2b Glued 4 Brows & Edges 2in1 Gel, but without the crunchiness that a lot of these products are known for. I'd almost describe it as a flexi-hold - your eyebrows won't move, but not because they're stuck to your face. It's been a welcome change in my routine - so much so that I've found myself reaching for it as my primary brow gel of choice. How to Use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel When using this product, I found that I instinctively followed the brand's directions but with a few tweaks. I use the long-bristle side of the brush to coat the hairs in the formula first, then without dipping again, I use the same side to sculpt the hairs in the direction that I want them to go in. I'll use the very edge of the long bristles to shape the tops and tails of my brows, but if the front needs to be touched up, I'll use the shorter side. It gives me a bit more control over the slightly more sparse area. What to Consider Before Trying the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel Due to the formula, this isn't the best gel for laminating eyebrows. It's a bit more on the runny side, so when I turn the brush to stick the hairs down, it gets a little messy. For the laminated look, I prefer the original wax formula, as I can more easily pick up a small amount of product and brush it through my brows while simultaneously shaping them. Keep that in mind, depending on the look you prefer. Where Is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel Available? The brow gel is available on sephora.com, anastasiabeverlyhills.com, and kohls.com. Rating:

Masseter Botox May Be Your Answer to Jaw Pain

Image Source: Getty / dimid_86 Botox injections, under the hands of a seasoned professional, can be a gift that keeps on giving. Since ophthalmologist Jean Carruthers first discovered the neurotoxin's wrinkle-reducing effects in the 1980s, the injection has become the most popular cosmetic treatment in the United States. Common FDA-approved areas to get Botox typically include the forehead and crow's feet, but there are also off-label portions of the face like the masseter that are becoming more popular. You've probably heard of people having jaw pain or TMJ and getting Botox to help relieve the tension; it's thanks to this practice. "Masseter Botox is the injection of the neurotoxin into the muscle to paralyze or weaken it," Jaimie DeRosa, MD, founder of DeRosa Center Plastic Surgery & Med Spa, tells POPSUGAR. The masseter is a muscle of mastication, or chewing, and it's located in the jaw area, where people can hold a lot of stress and tension. There are a host of reasons people may opt to get the injection at the site. To help us understand a bit more, Dr. DeRosa breaks down everything you should know about masseter Botox, from how much it costs to whether the treatment is for you. How Does Masseter Botox Work? The process of getting masseter Botox looks similar to getting the injection anywhere else, with one exception. "The toxin is injected right into the muscle," Dr. DeRosa says. "I have the patient bite down hard and clench their jaw so that the masseter contracts so that I can feel, and often see, the outline of the muscle." Since the masseter is reasonably large, Dr. DeRosa typically injects at several points depending on the amount of Botox she has to use (usually there are about three to four injections total). "Additionally, I tell my patients that it can take up to two weeks to see the full results and that the effects of masseter Botox typically wear off in three to four months," she says. Benefits of Masseter Botox There are a few reasons people get this treatment, and they're equally for aesthetic and health purposes. "When you chew, the masseter contracts, so you may feel a hard muscle along the back part of the face," Dr. DeRosa says. "While we need the muscle to masticate, sometimes it works too well and as a result becomes too large." This enlargement of the area can be caused by genetics or by working it too much by chewing a lot of gum, grinding your teeth, or doing any other activity that causes a lot of movement in the area. When the masseter muscle is enlarged, also known as "masseter hypertrophy," it can result in the bottom of the face along the back of the jawline looking wide and big. "This can also trigger medical conditions including migraine headaches and TMJ," Dr. DeRosa says. "Moreover, sometimes people can clench their jaws so hard due to strong masseter muscles that they break teeth." How to Determine If Masseter Botox Is Right For You As with all your aesthetic and health decisions, the decision to move forward with a procedure is entirely your own. Still, if you've been on the fence about whether or not you should get masseter Botox, Dr. DeRosa has a few recommendations to keep in mind. "Some people know that they are ready when they've exhausted other treatments for their particular issue," she says. "If you've sought help for breaking your teeth from clenching, migraines, or TMJ to no avail, you may want to consider this as the next step." Others will know they're ready for masseter Botox when they feel like their lower face is too wide or square due to large masseter muscles. One perk of masseter Botox is that since it paralyzes the muscle, once it is fully working, the muscle will start to get smaller over time from lack of use, therefore changing the shape of the area. Every result will be personal to you, so if you're wondering if you would benefit from masseter Botox, Dr. DeRosa highly recommends talking with a certified doctor, dentist, or professional who can answer all your questions about the treatment before you take the plunge. Cons of Masseter Botox Of course, masseter Botox isn't for everyone. If you get injections for TMJ or any kind of jaw pain, over time, you may realize that the treatment is having an unwanted consequence: changing the shape of your face. This is due to the fact that when paralyzed by the neurotoxin, the muscle is not being utilized and therefore gets smaller. Some people forgo the treatment all together for this reason, and in that case you can speak to your provider about mouth guards, massages, or other alternatives to help with pain management. How Much Does Masseter Botox Cost? As with most treatments, the cost of Botox can vary depending on the amount used, where you live, your injector, and so on. However, unlike many primarily aesthetic treatments, masseter Botox can sometimes be covered by insurance. "Since some of the reasons for the procedures can sometimes be medical/dental, there are instances when masseter Botox is covered," Dr. DeRosa says. "My recommendation is to discuss payment with your doctor prior to treatment, as typically it needs to be 'preapproved' by your insurer, and not every injector accepts insurance."
