If you're on the skin-care side of TikTok, you probably see board-certified dermatologist Muneeb Shah, MD of @dermdoctor debunking viral trends, answering all your skin-care questions, giving the rundown on all things pores, and so much more. He enjoys the variety dermatology has to offer but he's truly passionate about improving the quality of his patients' lives and making a difference in their confidence. "I started to think, where am I falling short with my product recommendations, and asked myself, how could I make people's lives simpler?" Dr. Shah tells PS. He took note of his followers' main concerns, from skin conditions to streamlined routines and price points, and it inspired him to create Remedy, a skin-care line with clinically-backed, all-in-one treatments for common skin-care concerns. Dr. Shah's rise to TikTok fame was unintentional and started during the pandemic. "I saw all of this misinformation, especially on TikTok - some of the top searches for acne and acne scars were done by non-experts," he says. "I became heavily convinced that you need to be where the misinformation starts." He stitched videos to let followers know the best course of action to solve their skin woes, what products he recommends, and answer any questions. "I saw this white space, and it became immediately clear when those videos started going viral." Dr. Shah analyzed his most frequently asked skin-care questions and noticed that his followers' two main concerns were pores and dark spots. "Every time I post a video about pores or sebaceous filaments, it goes crazy viral – those are my best-performing videos ever," says Dr. Shah. A common misconception is that you can use products to get rid of your pores, but that's untrue. "You can't eliminate your pores, and you can't stop your pores from producing oil, and nor would you want to because it gives your skin hydration and produces the lipids that are going to make it soft," he says. "For pores, I would always recommend the same things, like retinol, salicylic acid, and niacinamide, almost on repeat." Rather than tell people to buy multiple products, with Remedy, he wants to create products that that it it. Dr. Shah realizes that the world of skin care can be confusing, between the buzzy product names and sheer number of options out there. "People want remedies for their skin, and this is a problem-solution brand," he says. The line features three products: Remedy For Pore Size, Remedy For Dark Spots, and Remedy For Dry Lips, all at a reasonable price point, ranging from $16 to $38. "If you don't know anything about skin care and you just know that you have dark spots and want a solution, you can find Remedy For Dark Spots," he says. He also says that while most product marketing promises a change in two weeks, "you can't give up for at least two months - consistency is so key. The big misconception is that one treatment is going to solve it, but really, it's more of a long-term commitment." The product is supposed to visibly smooth and blur fine lines while delivering a "glass-like" shine, and I had to see if it's worth the hype. About the Huda Beauty Faux Filler Extra Shine Lip Gloss It is formulated with vitamin E and vegan collagen to help hydrate and moisturize the lips. It has a tapered doe-foot applicator with a formula reservoir to hold the maximum amount of product. It comes in seven shades: Glassy (clear), Sugar Baby (light pink), Honey (light peachy nude), Bombshell (pinky brown), Foxy (caramel brown), Posh (deep rose/berry), and Coco (deep chocolate brown). What I Like About the Huda Beauty Faux Filler Extra Shine Lip Gloss Kattan describes the gloss as a non-plumping formula that fills in lip lines, and as someone with really dry lips, I find these lines to be very pronounced. To test whether it delivers on its claims, I compared my bare lips to the clear shade Glassy. As you can see, my lips look significantly smoother. The glossy shine also comes through, giving my lips a fuller, juicer appearance. Beyond the actual look of the gloss, I was more impressed with its texture. It's a true balmy gloss without the stickiness. It's thicker and almost feels like the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask, which I appreciate for my dry lips. After applying it, it feels like the hydration is sinking in to nourish my skin, not just sitting on the surface. After seeing how the formula held up, I was even more excited to try out the other colors. Of the six shades, I absolutely adore Bombshell, Foxy, Posh, and Coco. Overall, the range of colors is universally flattering. These lip glosses have just the right amount of pigment to be worn alone, making it easy to streamline your routine. The best part about these lip glosses is that they are quite affordable at $19 a pop compared to others on the market. From the texture and feel to the pigmented color payoff, I'll likely be replacing the other lip products in my purse with one of these glosses - or two, if I want to change up my color midday. How to Use the Huda Beauty Faux Filler Extra Shine Lip Gloss Because of its pigmented color payoff, this lip gloss is pretty versatile. You can wear it by itself, on top of a lip combo for a high-shine effect, or, as the brand suggests, paired with a lip liner for a more defined look. I love wearing it on its own, and it's perfect for reapplication throughout the day. The tapered doe-foot applicator makes it so easy to use the tip to apply it neatly along the perimeter of your lips and then fill it in with the flatter sides that have the product reservoir. The brand also recommends lining your lips with a liner and blending it out. Use a darker shade for the corners of the lips and a lighter shade for the cupid's bow and the fuller part of your lips. Set it with the Easy Bake Loose Setting Powder ($38) for long-lasting wear and then top it with the Faux Filler Lip Gloss for a juicy lip with a reflective shine. What to Consider Before Trying the Huda Beauty Faux Filler Extra Shine Lip Gloss The lip gloss has a heavier feel compared to others on the market but isn't as sticky. Personally, I don't mind the thickness; in fact, I prefer it because it makes my lips feel conditioned. It does not have the slip of lip oil, but it has more of a lip balm feel. For some of the shades - mainly lighter options like Sugar Baby and Honey - you can see the pigment settle into fine lines, whereas the darker shades have more of a blended, even-toned finish. To help determine which outdoor furniture pieces to invest in, consider the arrangement first. Brayton likes to create different seating zones. "Depending on what your space looks like, a place for dining will likely be the first area to appear, and then perhaps it's a two-seater bench at the end of your patio or yard, or behind your dining table," she says. "Maybe two deeper lounge chairs show up in an opposite part of the space." She also advises picking furniture that matches your home's architecture, as well as the style of your interiors, including color scheme, furniture shapes, and materials. Whether your home leans contemporary and modern or has a more rustic and bohemian vibe, it's best to choose outdoor furniture that reflects that aesthetic so your entire home flows together. In terms of material, she suggests pieces made with wicker, iron, and teak. As Brayton points out, outdoor furniture will likely develop a patina over time, which we shouldn't be afraid to embrace because it adds charm and shows depth. She also loves incorporating upholstery and textiles to soften up the space. "Seasonally, you can switch out blankets or pillows to make seating more comfortable," she says. However, she recommends using covers and outdoor storage to protect fabrics from weather, staining, and sun-bleaching. Where can you buy the best outdoor furniture? We have a lot to thank Emily Mariko for. From her viral salmon rice recipe to sweet treats like frozen grapes and chocolate-covered dates, the content creator keeps TikTok feeds filled with delicious, yet attainable, recipes. "For me in particular, it's these purple Japanese sweet potatoes, and I get them from a Japanese stand at my farmer's market, and I can't find them anywhere else," she says. Renowned board-certified dermatologist Shereene Idriss, MD, otherwise known as PillowtalkDerm on TikTok to her 752K followers, has had a passion for medicine since she was a little girl. It was fueled by a love of artistry, specifically painting and sculpting, which helped her develop a keen eye and attention to detail.
