The Analogue Pocket arrives with Game Boy Color tones on Sept. 12

I may occasionally forget things like my own birthday or how to properly use a semicolon; but everyone who has ever owned a Game Boy Color probably remembers which color they had or wanted (Kiwi Green, personally). Analogue is introducing six new colors for its enthusiast retro gaming handheld, the Analogue Pocket. Five of the colors are inspired by the original treatments given to the Game Boy Color, while the shiny gold color is an Analogue original. Each new color will be available directly from the Analogue store for $249.99 starting Sept. 12 at 11 a.m. EST while supplies last.

The hardware within these new models remains unchanged from the original version of the Analogue Pocket, but are a welcome departure from the standard black and white models that launched in 2021 (speaking of those original color schemes, Analogue tells us that those will be back in stock again starting Sept. 12). Analogue has previously made limited quantities of transparent, pastel, and metal versions of the Analogue Pocket, but this is its first nod to the Game Boy Color.

Since its launch, the Analogue Pocket has remained a popular option in a sea of less costly alternatives, in large part because it can play cartridge-based Game Boy games natively without the need for emulation. The Pocket measures roughly the same dimensions as an unfolded Game Boy Advance SP, but features a beautiful matte finish, remappable buttons, and a 3.5-inch LCD screen with support for 1600 x 1440 resolution.

By default, the Analogue Pocket is equipped to play cartridges for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance, but a series of adapters (sold separately) allows the Pocket to play cartridges for the Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket, the Atari Lynx, and more.

New drops of the Analogue Pocket tend to sell out pretty quick, so you’ll need to be decisive if you’re planning to buy one of these gorgeous new colors.
