Strangest Collab of 2024 Sees Belgian McDonald’s, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Hello Kitty Team Up… And Fans Are Going Wild

Yu-Gi-Oh, Hello Kitty, and Belgian McDonald’s restaurants have teamed up in the strangest collaboration of 2024 so far, but fans are going wild for it.

As reported by Kotaku, the latest Happy Meal toy giveaway is a line of 10 little beasties that combine the colourful worlds of Yu-Gi-Oh and Hello Kitty. The figures depict the likes of My Melody and Kuromi dressing up as various monsters from the world of Yu-Gi-Oh, all drawing from the classic era.

The collaboration includes: My Melody as Dark Magician Girl; Tuxedosam as Obelisk the Tormentor; Kuromi as Slifer the Sky Dragon; Chococat as The Winged Dragon of Ra; Hello Kitty as Dark Magician; Cinnamoroll as Blue-Eyes White Dragon; Keroppi as Kuriboh; Pompompurin as Exodia the Forbidden One; Pochacco as Time Wizard; and Badtz-maru as Red-Eyes Black Dragon.

With both brands being incredibly popular, fans are going online to express their disappointment the line is exclusive to Belgium.

“The amount of Happy Meals I would buy as a grown man just to collect these,” said Shmarfle47 on Reddit. “As someone in the states, I will sell my first born for that My Melody Dark Magician Girl,” added TwinleafMayor, before clarifying: “I am likely not having a child but I would offer something of equal value.”

Yu-Gi-Oh is as popular as ever more than 20 years later, with fans continuing to play in person and digitally in one of the many games. The accurate simulation game of Master Duel was released in 2022 and proved incredibly successful, with tens of millions of downloads in the first few months.

Publisher Konami is also regularly appealing to the nostalgia of these fans by printing original anime cards for the first time and unbanning a beloved classic card after 17 years.
