Welcome to the first day of the holidays. Bored yet? I am, which is why I’ve scoured the stores for the best deals on the hottest games. The Fallout series is still the thing to replay, plus Hogwarts Legacy has gone halfy Potter on PS and PC. Awful wordplay aside, save often and do stay safe during these holidays.
In retro news, I’m celebrating the 13th birthday of Patapon 3, a PSP great and the highest point of an all-time franchise. Best described as a musical RPG where four-beat patterns and rhythmic button taps produce heroism, Patapon 3’s catchy-arse songs still live rent free in my head over half a decade later.
The Pro Controller’s face buttons are big – much bigger than the tiny Joy-Con buttons – and give a nice press. Thumbsticks also feel excellent, and, Miyamoto be praised, they’re offset just like on Xbox.
Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and unknown.
As someone who finds the wand-whipping combat in the movies fairly dull, I was very concerned about Hogwart Legacy’s ability to keep my attention, but the combat here is fantastic, challenging, and utterly captivating. 9/10, amazing.
