The Lego Art Hokusai The Great Wave consists of 1,810 bricks and measures approximately 20.5″x15.5″. For those of you who only buy LEGOs when they’re on sale, rest assured that this is an outstanding value for what you get. At the discounted price of $79.99, you’re paying about 4.4 cents per brick. Even better is the fact that this is one of the best looking LEGO 3D wall art models alongside the LEGO The Starry Night (which costs $65 more). Granted the bricks are largely flat pieces and dots, but there is a lot of variation in color and style here and is definitely still one of the best LEGO sets you can get for 2024.
This set is a replica of the iconic The Great Wave art by the Japanese artist Hokusai. There are several wonderful features, like the multi-layered design which makes the waves look like they’re bursting forth from the canvas, a scannable QR code that includes a special soundtrack that “enhances” your time building the set, a premium booklet with details about his art, and a bonus decorative tile with Hokusai’s signature.
This Great Wave is part of LEGO’s line of builds intended for adults (grown up kids). It comes in a black box, with a big 18+ label on it. Despite the fact that the set is largely two dimensional, the build employs interesting techniques that will keep you engaged. Since this is a piece of art that’s meant to be mounted, it’s intended more for display than for play. That said, it’s probably one you’ll appreciate every time you walk by.
