The Apple Vision Pro 256GB VR/AR headset is normally priced at $3499, but today Woot has it for $3349, a savings of about $150. This is the first ever discount we’ve seen for the best non-gaming AR/VR headset on the market. That’s not really enough to change the status of the Vision Pro from “way too expensive” to anything else, but if you were planning to get one anyways, the $150 savings is a welcome discount. If you haven’t had a chance to demo the Vision Pro at one of Apple’s retail locations, I highly recommend you give it a try. You can also check out Seth’s excellent Apple Vision Pro review. The Vision Pro is priced way above what the vast majority of people would pay for a VR headset, but that doesn’t mean the Vision Pro is over-priced. The technology and materials built into the headset deserves the high price tag, and most of it is because of the incredible display. The Vision Pro sports two Micro OLED panels with an approximate 3660×3200 resolution per panel or a combined total of 23 million pixels. It has an amazing eye tracking system made up of internal cameras and infrared sensors that allows you to highlight an item simply by staring at it. The Vision Pro also allows you to take and record 3D photos and videos that look extremely convincing when viewed or played back on your headset. The external high-resolution cameras are equally adept at precise head and hand tracking and real‑time 3D mapping. The fact that the Vision Pro doesn’t use controllers isn’t great for games, but it’s amazing for producitivity. Pinch your fingers and use simple gestures to click, scroll, and resize. I am a diehard Quest 3 fan and I’m used to navigating with controllers, but the hand-based controls were way more intuitive than I expected. It really is a glimpse into the future.
But at the end of the day, is it worth $3500, or even $3350? For most people, definitely not. But if you want to buy one anyways, at least save $150 while you’re at it.
