Red vs. Blue Movie Release Date and Trailer Revealed Amid Rooster Teeth’s Demise

With the 19th and final season of Red vs. Blue being a full-length film, Rooster Teeth Productions has shared an official trailer and a release date, confirming its beloved series will conclude on May 7.

The trailer opens up with the film’s director, Matt Hullum, and Red vs. Blue co-creator and Rooster Teeth Productions co-founder Burnie Burns, with a short message before cutting to the actual trailer. While Burns parted ways with Rooster Teeth in 2020, in 2023, during the Rooster Teeth-hosted convention RTX, it was confirmed that Burns would return to work on the final season, serving as the writer for Restoration.

The trailer itself, while brief, reveals that the plot of Red vs. Blue Restoration will have the Reds and Blues of Blood Gulch will have to poot aside their differences and team up to save the galaxy. As the series namesake implies, the show’s plot was centered around a civil war between the Red and Blue teams.

Rooster Teeth Productions previously confirmed that Red vs. Blue would conclude after 19 seasons with a full-length film serving as the series finale. This news was part of an unfortunate announcement that after 21 years, Rooster Teeth was shutting down after its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, was unsuccessful in selling the company to another buyer.

Although Red vs. Blue predates the formation of Rooster Teeth Productions, it was arguably one of the most recognized projects to come out of the company. Originally started as a web series set in the same universe as the sci-fi shooter series Halo, Red vs. Blue was a breakout hit for Rooster Teeth, eventually being distributed onto DVD and Blu-Ray and at one point on the streaming service Netflix before its removal in early 2020. Red vs. Blue has had a lasting impact on both Rooster Teeth Productions and is credited with popularizing both machinima and web video series to a wider audience.
