Maggie Gyllenhaal’s long-rumored Bride of Frankenstein movie is officially called The Bride!, and it’s coming to theaters and IMAX on October 3, 2025, Warner Bros. announced today.
Gyllenhaal is directing, writing, and producing the movie. A cast is here, too, and features a monster lineup that includes Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley, and Peter Sarsgaard, along with Annette Bening and Penelope Cruz. Also helping out in the producing spot are Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman-Keren.
Details on The Bride are relatively light, but we do have a logline (via Deadline):
“A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aide of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”
Gyllenhaal is an all-around talent in Hollywood, having appeared in front of the camera for projects like The Dark Knight and behind it for things like 2021’s The Lost Daughter. The latter left us impressed enough to give it a 9/10 review. At the time, we said, “The Lost Daughter is a stunning and unflinching portrait of a woman swimming against the tides of social expectation.”
Warner Bros. announced several shakeups to its schedule today, including a date of August 8, 2025, for an untitled Paul Thomas Anderson movie as well as a four-month delay for Alto Knights which will see it release on March 21, 2025. The Batman – Part II was hit with the biggest change, though, with its date moved from October 2025 to October 2026.
