Letter: Got the heat pump blues!

I invested in two air source heat pumps 10 years ago. I somewhat regret it (“Heat pumpmakers seek certainty after PM’s retreat from green goals”, Report, March 14).

With the electricity-to-gas price ratio at four — a measure of the cost of running a heat pump versus a gas boiler — and with the median heat gain of some 2.8 (2.8 units of heat for each unit of electricity to run the pump), they are not economic.

And as any plumber will tell you, installation is not easy. It turns out mine have been there for 10 years with the wrong manifolds and pipes.
