Green Lantern DCU TV Series Writing Team Includes Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy, and Tom King

James Gunn has confirmed that the writing team for Lanterns, DCU’s upcoming Green Lantern TV series, includes Lost and Watchmen’s Damon Lindelof, Ozark’s Chris Mundy, and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Tom King.

Gunn shared the news on Instagram, saying, “Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns DCU series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof. A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family (no welcome necessary for old @tomking_tk, who has been here nearly since inception).”

Lanterns was announced as part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, and it looks to be a “True Detective-type mystery” with two famous Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

“That leads into the overall story that we’re telling throughout the different movies and television shows,” Gunn said of Lanterns. “And we find this ancient horror on earth, and these guys are basically super cops on Precinct Earth.”

We don’t know much else about the show, but these additions should instill some confidence going forward.

Lindelof has won three Primetime Emmy Awards – Outstanding Drama Series for Lost, Outstanding Limited Series for Watchmen, and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series, Movie, or Dramatic Special for Watchmen – and has been part of a ton of other very high-profile projects. The list includes The Leftovers, Mrs. Davis, Star Trek Into Darkness, Prometheus, World War Z, Tomorrowland, and much more.

Alongside being the showrunner for Ozark, Mundy was also an executive producer and writer on True Detective, Bloodline, Criminal Minds, and much more. King won the Eisner Award for Best Writer for his work on Batman, Batman Annual #2, Batman/Elmer Fudd Special #1, and Mister Miracle. He is also well known for his work on A Once Crowded Sky, The Vision, The Sheriff of Babylon, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

The DCU will have a lot of Green Lantern action in it as it was also revealed Nathan Fillion will be taking on the role of Guy Gardner. While it is yet unclear if he will show up in Lanterns, he will be making an appearance in Superman Legacy.
