Donald Trump’s Twitch channel is back

The popular livestreaming platform Twitch has reinstated the official account tied to former President Donald Trump. The company restored the channel three and a half years after suspending it “indefinitely” following the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Twitch lifted its ban on Trump’s account on Friday, the day after he accepted the Republican nomination for president in the 2024 election. A Twitch representative confirmed the reactivation in a statement to Polygon on Monday, saying, “We believe there is value in hearing from Presidential nominees directly, when possible. Trump is now the official Republican nominee for US president.”

The statement said Twitch will continue to uphold its community guidelines and moderate the channel.

“We continue to enforce our Community Guidelines and take necessary enforcement action when we identify violations of our rules,” the representative said. “Twitch doesn’t have a ‘public figure policy,’ meaning all channels are equally subject to our guidelines, regardless of whether the channel belongs to a public figure.”

Trump’s Twitch channel was created in October 2019, according to Twitch Tracker. It has more than 143,000 followers at the time of publication. His team uses it to livestream Trump’s events and rallies, and it has resumed regular use — the campaign’s rally on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was streamed on the channel.
