Trump Demands Biden Remove Ad of Him Calling Dead Soldiers ‘Suckers’ and ‘Losers’

Brandon Bell/GettyDonald Trump on Sunday called for President Joe Biden to take down an attack ad featuring a series of quotes attributed to the Republican in which he mocks dead soldiers. The former president’s demand came on the same day that Biden honored fallen troops in a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery in France, the burial ground that Trump chose not to visit in 2018 and was later reported to have done so while describing the site as “filled with losers.” Trump has denied making the remark—and another in which he allegedly called more than 1,800 Marines “suckers” for being killed—ever since The Atlantic first published his purported words in 2020.Those denials continued Sunday, first at a rally in Las Vegas. “He said I stood over graves of soldiers and I said: ‘These people are suckers and losers, the dead soldiers from World War I,’’ Trump said, referring to Biden. He went on to claim the whole episode was “made up” and, despite the Biden campaign knowing it’s “phony,” they still “took an ad using it—these are sick people.”Read more at The Daily Beast.

Netanyahu Vows to ‘Present the Truth’ of Gaza War in Address to Congress on July 24

Gil Cohen-Magen/ReutersIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to address a joint meeting of Congress on July 24 during a visit to Washington, D.C., Republican leaders announced Thursday.House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement that the address would allow Netanyahu to “share the Israeli government’s vision for defending their democracy, combatting terror, and establishing just and lasting peace in the region.” In accepting the invitation, Netanyahu said he was “very moved” and would “present the truth about our just war against those who seek to destroy us to the representatives of the American people and the entire world.”The address will undoubtedly prove controversial amid mounting international criticism of the manner in which Netanyahu is prosecuting his war with Hamas in Gaza. His arrival in the U.S. also comes after tensions with President Joe Biden, who has largely supported Israel’s war but has recently criticized Netanyahu’s strategy and halted shipments of certain munitions.Read more at The Daily Beast.

China’s Highest Waterfall Is Being Supplied by Pipes: ‘Small Enhancement’

Gary Todd/Wikimedia CommonsAt over 1,000 feet tall, Yuntai Falls is revered as the highest waterfall in China. It turns out that, at the moment, it’s really more of a water feature.Video recorded by a hiker in the Yuntai Mountain scenic area in Henan province showed water gushing out of pipes at the top of the falls, artificially creating the flow cascading over the precipice. As social media users flooded in with questions about the apparent deception, park officials released a statement Tuesday to clear things up.“Depending on the season, I cannot guarantee that I am in my best condition whenever my friends come to see me,” the statement, written from the waterfall’s perspective, said, according to a translation from The Washington Post. “To make your experience of the journey more complete and to make you feel that it’s a worthwhile trip, I underwent a small enhancement so that I could meet my friends in better shape in the dry season.”Read more at The Daily Beast.
