Arkane announces Marvel’s Blade game

It’s not Dishonored 3, but Arkane Studios appeared at The Game Awards to announce its next game: Marvel’s Blade.

The short trailer showed Blade — also known as Eric Brooks — at the barber shop, bathed in red light. We get a quick peek at Brooks’ vampire teeth before the screen cuts to an iconic silhouette of Blade reaching for his, well, blade. Marvel’s Blade is a third-person, single-player game set in a quarantined area of Paris during a “supernatural emergency” where vampires are terrorizing the night.

There’s no release date just yet; the studio is in early development, according to a news release. Arkane co-creative director Dinga Bakaba asked fans to “let us cook,” before doing a karate kick toward the camera. For those unfamiliar, Blade is half-human and half-vampire, meaning he’s able to go out in sunlight without turning to dust.

“As a kid of mixed origins, I felt a special connection to Blade  — a hero with a dual heritage himself,” Bakaba said in a statement to press. “The opportunity to put our spin on this character is a dream of mine and a challenge that our team embraces with a passion. We couldn’t be happier to put players in Blade’s boots, as he becomes the champion of my hometown of Paris, one stake at a time.”

Ahead of The Game Awards, fans believed Arkane might show Dishonored 3, but that’s not the case. That’s because news of its potential development was leaked when internal Microsoft documents were leaked during the FTC vs. Microsoft trial. Arkane’s last game is Redfall, which failed to meet player and studio expectations.
