In retro news, I’m celebrating the 22nd birthday of Knockout Kings 2002, the penultimate entry in a series that would morph into the Fight Night franchise. Featuring Ali, Frazier, Duran, Leonard, De La Hoya, Vargas, Lewis, and Hopkins, this was the first entry to include a stick-based evasion system and the use of said real boxers in the career mode. Man, I miss purebred boxing games. Bring back the biff, EA.
Ultimate lives up to its name, offering the most comprehensive game in the series to date. It has an absurd amount to play, fight, and unlock – almost too much stuff, to be honest. 9.4/10, amazing.
Sign up for a free (and easily cancelled) Prime Gaming account and you’ll get to forever-own this knight on knight multiplayer extravaganza. Its combat hits that sweet spot between accessible dumb fun and rewarding, skill-based mechanics. 9/10.
Granted, not a phenomal amount of money off here, but temper that with the fact that they almost never discount this absolute, utter must-play of an RPG that can (potentially) last 150 odd hours or more.
