Welcome back to my daily dose of scoring games that matter for way less than recommended retail. I’ve got a smattering of the cheapest current AAAs, but mostly this Wednesday is about slightly older gems that can be scored for near shoplifter level discounts. Case in point: that free Fallout and those almost-free, ≥90% off deals on Star Wars: Squadrons, Titanfall 2 Ultimate, and Evil Genius 2.
In retro news, I’m celebrating the sweet sixteenth of God of War: Chains of Olympus, a PSP powerhouse spin-off. In this first game prequel that occurs after God of War: Ascension, Kratos is still the Winston Wolf dogsbody of that Greek Godsbody corporate. My overriding memory of it is an array of weird unlockable skins that turned old mate into a giant spud, a bekilted Braveheart berserker, or a French mime. Ooh la la!
A phenomenally good port that basically proved the Switch was capable of way more than many of us expected. Also available in the five-game Doom Slayers Collection (-70%, $23.38).
Requiem is an impressive sequel to one of my favorite action-adventure games, upping the ante in almost every way. Expect a depressing yet awesome story, fantastic graphics, and rat-filled moments that’ll gnaw on your brain afterwards. 8/10, great.
Relink bucks the RPG genre’s usual trend of long and slow-paced stories, but the relative brevity of its campaign doesn’t compromise on the quality of its storytelling. It also has a fantastic battle system, and fun multiplayer options. 8/10, great.
