Supernatural Star Jared Padalecki Gives a Very Positive Update on Possible The Boys Appearance

Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki has spoken to showrunner Eric Kripke about potentially joining Prime Video’s hit superhero show, The Boys.

Padalecki, who is best known for portraying Sam Winchester in the long-running paranormal investigation series, professed his excitement during an interview with Deadline. The two previously collaborated on Supernatural, where Kripke served as creator and showrunner.

When asked if he would be up for joining The Boys, Padalecki gave a straightforward reply: “The answer is yes.” Details on how he might fit into the show’s already wide universe remain to be decided, but it’s a topic he and Kripke are keeping on their minds.

“We have talked [about a role]. As a matter of fact, we talked today,” Padalecki said. “I think at this point in my acting life, I only want to work on projects that I really care about or with people that I really care about, and obviously Eric and I are indelibly connected forever.”

For many, Padalecki’s involvement in The Boys feels inevitable. As the series has continued to tell its gory superhero story, it’s slowly introduced more of the Supernatural cast. First was Jim Beaver, who joined as Robert Singer in Season 1, then Season 3 brought Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles’ debut as Soldier Boy. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who played John Winchester in Kripke’s previous show, eventually joined as Kessler for Season 4, too.

“I don’t think [Season 5] films until next year, but I will be ready when he makes the phone call. I’ll just say ‘Okay, when am I flying out?’

If Padalecki does appear in The Boys Season 5, it could mean fans see him share a screen with Ackles, Beaver, and Morgan once again following Supernatural’s end in 2020. If and how the star will appear remains up to Kripke.

“I mean, he created Supernatural. He created Sam Winchester. He created Ruby [Genevieve Padalecki], who I ended up marrying and starting a family with,” Padalecki added. “I adore him. I adore his humor. I adore him as a person, his storytelling. So I can’t wait. I don’t think [Season 5] films until next year, but I will be ready when he makes the phone call. I’ll just say ‘Okay, when am I flying out?’”

Padalecki will be introduced in The Boys when Season 5 eventually premieres. There is no release date yet, but Kripke has confirmed that the fifth season will be its last.

Amazon recently announced that The Boys Season 4 premiere managed to bring in 21% more viewers than Season 3’s premiere. The current run of episodes began with a three-episode drop on June 13, with additional episodes set to release every Thursday until the finale on July 18. We gave the Season 4 premiere a 7/10 in our review, saying “The first three episodes of The Boys Season 4 are a less-than-impressive but still substantial spin on old patterns and dynamics.”
