Chesapeake Police Public Information Officer Leo Kosinski told WAVY-TV that the department received a call at 10.12 p.m. local time on Tuesday about a shooting at a Walmart supercenter just off Battlefield Boulevard.

Kosinski told members of the media that there were “multiple fatalities” in the incident and the suspected gunman is also deceased. He said the shooting occurred inside the store, but that at least one person was found dead outside of the building.

A man named Kevin livestreaming from what appeared to be the parking lot outside a Walmart building said there was a shooting at his workplace. In the video the man was wearing a Walmart uniform.

“We are shocked at this tragic event at our Chesapeake, Virginia store. We’re praying for those impacted, the community and our associates,” a Walmart representative told Insider, “We’re working closely with law enforcement, and we are focused on supporting our associates.”

Chesapeake city officials are asking people to not go near the Walmart while the investigation is ongoing.

“Our first responders are well-trained and prepared to respond; please give them space to do so” the city tweeted.

The FBI’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives said on Twitter that its Washington division is working with the Chesapeake police department on the investigation.
